The Athletico Madrid and Spanish striker took a swipe at his former manager, Antonio Conte. Diego Costa, while talking to the press, sighted that look at where Conte is at the moment, as he was sacked at Chelsea.
Diego Costa said moving to Chelsea was the biggest mistake of his career and the worst time in his history as a footballer. He said he was happy to return to Athletico Madrid under Diego Simeone, and he is enjoying his time in Madrid.
Costa moved to Chelsea from Athletico Madrid was a huge success as he made immediate impact and helping them win the premiership. Costa scored 52 goals at his time in Chelsea and fell out with Conte due to an impending move to China.
Costa said dealing with the management in Chelsea was very difficult compared to Athletico Madrid who was much direct under Simeone. He narrated his time with Chelsea was terrible, especially when he was told to train with the reserve team.
Conte had to inform Costa that he was not in his plan for the next season and that he should look for another club after their fall out.
“It was a very bad moment, but it wasn’t my fault. People said things, but time puts everything in its place; look where the coach is, look at Conte,” Costa said to Marca, referencing Conte’s sacking in July.
“I was wrong going to Chelsea, because of their way of dealing with things. Cholo [Atletico coach Diego Simeone] is a direct coach, and when he doesn’t love you, it’s clear, and he shows it.
Costa admitted that he was enjoying his life in Madrid, which has a similar culture to that in Brazil. Diego Costa has been a regular player in the Athletico teams, and he said it was like he never left.
