Protesters rallying under the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement have gathered once again at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja. This comes shortly after they faced teargas from police officers at the Berger roundabout, which also affected journalists present at the scene.
Determined and undeterred, the protesters declared their intention to continue their demonstration until the Federal Government addresses their demands. Speaking to the press, Tari, a protester, criticized the police actions, saying, “We demand an explanation for this harassment. There is severe hunger affecting many. We will remain steadfast in our protest until the President hears us.”
Michael Zayi, another protester, shared his frustration, stating, “When those in power ignore the pleas of the people, the consequences are dire. We are peaceful and only want our voices heard. If the President had listened earlier, we wouldn’t be in this position.”
Zayi emphasized their resolve, adding, “Hope persists through determination. The greatest struggle is not death but the battle against hunger. We won’t be silenced by teargas in our fight for a better life.”
The persistence and bravery of these protesters highlight a significant moment in Nigeria’s ongoing struggle for improved governance and social justice. Their commitment, despite facing aggressive police tactics, underscores the urgent need for dialogue and reform. The government’s response to these protests will be crucial in shaping the future of Nigeria’s democracy and addressing the widespread issues that have driven citizens to the streets.
