Great features of Alexandria National Museum (ANM) in Egypt

ANM is one the best places to visit in Egypt. More than 1800 archaeological pieces are shown to visitors from one floor to the next.

Five things to know about Alexandria National Museum

The museum contains three floors with antiques which are listed below:

Basement

The basement is devoted to the Pharaonic time with finds across Egypt. You will see:

  • Egyptian mummies
  • Mummies chamber

Ground floor

The ground floor of the museum shows finds from the Hellenistic and Roman periods. You will see:

  •  A sphinx and underwater excavations sculptures 
  • A small statue of the Greek god Harpocrates with a finger to his lips (representing silence)
  • The Egyptian statue of a Ptolemaic queen
  •  a Hellenistic body

Top floor

The top floor exhibits artefacts from the Coptic, Byzantine to Islamic, and modern periods. Collections available to view are listed below:

  • Ancient Egyptian coins
  • Ottoman weapons 
  •  Jewels
  •  Silver shield
  • Alexandria’s carved wooden
