Huawei Technologies, one of China’s top leading Smartphones brand, is on track to also become the world leading phone brand. With a target of over 200 million smartphones shipment for 2018, this may as well place them as the second most sort after brand just above Apple brand and behind Samsung.
This calculation was based on the two brands they manufacture which are Huawei and Honor. If we go by previous years, beating the 200 million mark may not put them in second place.
However, this assumption is based on the fact that both brands are witnessing an increasing steady growth momentum when the other leading phone brands show a gradual decline of sales. Samsung, a South Korean brand had a 2.4 per cent decline in shipment while Apple brand recorded a 2.8 per cent drop in sales in the first quarter of 2018.
They have already cross the 100 million shipment as of July 18. This makes it the fastest shipment Huawei technologies ever witness since inception, said mobile segment Chief Richard Chengeng on Wednesday.
“Previously Huawei reached the 100 million shipments mark on December 22, 2015, October 14, 2016 and September 12, 2017. As it’s only taken just over six months to reach the target this year, we are now aiming for shipments of 200 million units by the end of 2018,” Yu said during a new product launch.
The steady rise of sales may be linked to their inroad towards the second largest smartphones market in the world after China which is India. Huawei is holding the two biggest smartphones as China has so much love for Huawei. According to Zarked Li, a senior industry analyst with IHS market, both brands have picked up swiftly in Indian and South-east Asia in the second quarter of the year.
“Given that the second half is normally the peak season for smartphones sales as major brands will all release their flagship phones, it will not be difficult for Huawei to exceed 200 million units of phone shipments if it has already completed half of that now,” said Li.
Last year, Huawei made a shipment of 153.1 million mobile phones behind Apple’s 215.8 million and 317.3 million. They heard a temporary second spot between June and July, 2017 before Apple launch of their flagship smartphones September of that year driving their sales up, according to Hong Kong-based counterpoint.
It is rumoured that their next generation flagship Mate series will be realised in the third quarter of the year. This will drive their sales up and may help to surpass last year’s sales figure.
One of the secrets to the future of Huawei brand was recently announced in June when they unveiled a turbocharged graphics processing technology target at Android based phones when it comes to gaming. This technology if implemented in their next flagship phones is designed to improve graphics processing efficiency by 60 per cent while reducing energy consumption by 30 per cent giving it an edge in mobile gaming over competitors like iPhone X, said the company. This will, in turn, improve sales.
