The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a stark warning about the potential for violent elements to hijack the upcoming nationwide protest against economic hardship. Intelligence reports indicate that this protest could replicate the chaos recently witnessed in Kenya, posing a significant threat to national stability.

During a press briefing in Abuja, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, detailed the alarming similarities between the planned protest and the violent, unresolved incidents in Kenya. He highlighted strong indications that malicious actors are plotting to escalate the demonstration into widespread disorder, which could have devastating consequences.

General Buba assured the public that the military is acutely aware of these plans and is fully prepared to intervene to prevent the nation from descending into anarchy. He emphasized that while the constitution upholds the right to peaceful protest, it unequivocally condemns any actions aimed at inciting violence and terror.

He identified potential targets for these violent factions, including innocent citizens, places of worship, businesses, and markets. Major General Buba called on the populace to remain calm and trust that the government is working diligently to address their grievances and restore national prosperity.

In a resolute statement, he underscored the military’s unwavering commitment to maintaining order and safeguarding the country’s stability. He reiterated that although peaceful protest is a fundamental right, any attempts to provoke violence will be met with decisive action. The nation’s security forces stand ready to protect citizens and ensure that peace prevails.
